walking on the beach/arms outstretched with smiles tilting towards the ocean’s tide. you keep going & going till the water kisses the roof of your knees & flowers bloom atop the ventricles in your heart/& that is when you stop/exhale/this, your first shot at living. i mean, nothing else matters at this point where burden morphs into weightlessness. where the sunset becomes a crown upon your head. in this poem, you are learning to cuddle your breath more. you are self-discovering, finding self amid the wreckage/plucking grotesque metaphors from every stanza in your life. you could swear/for each time you pinched your skin/you felt your nerves breathe. your body/formerly the devil/now turned haven. you are a mobile paradise. you can bury your eyes within its lids without thinking of sets of teeth gnashing at the door leading to your dream. mother would be proud to embrace this refinement in the morning. once, you reminded her of a starved feline — restless/hungry/angry/haunted. hopefully, she will see you/as she would a priest/serving peace like it was the communion.
